Hi, I'm Ana
Project manager. Parent. Expat living in Lisbon, Portugal.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Portugal wasn't part of the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far greater.
The initial months were demanding — new processes, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complicated than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubt, and plenty of hands-on learning. Gradually, routines took shape. We found spots that fit us, connected with other families, and began to build something that felt steadfast.
Why I Built Velvet Orchid Pilot
Most of the information online came from corporate relocation guidance or superficial travel content. What was lacking was a frank, everyday family viewpoint.
This website aims to bridge that gap—practical guidance drawn from real-life in Portugal.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site IS:
- Hands-on experience from living in Portugal
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated when a real change occurs
This site ISN'T:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a platform for sponsored reviews
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Portugal goes on, and so does learning. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll continue to document what we find.
If you have questions about family life in Lisbon or anywhere in Portugal, feel free to get in touch.
Kind regards,
Ana
